Labor Day Project

Today the awning on the front of the building came down. This is the first step of the building’s new face-lift. Participants in today’s project included myself and Conner, who were the Supervisors, and Bryan and Wayne, who were the technical workers.

** Please note that for your own safety, we do not advise that you repeat any of the steps that we utilized to remove your own building awning.

First the loader tractor was used to stabilize the awning from underneath.

An antique dresser was used to prop the ladder on so Bryan could shimmy up on the roof and down onto the awning. He would then remove all of the bolts holding the awning onto the building. A hole was created through the middle of the aluminum so a log chain could be passed around the awning and hooked to the tractor.

After all of the bolts were removed and Bryan was safely back on the ground, the awning was lowered and removed from the building.

Here is Conner, who supervised the project and made sure it went without a hitch.

Everything went smoothly and thankfully Bryan waited until it was all complete to tell me he was only nervous about falling though the awning a few times … YIKES. I am happy to have it down with no injuries, no dented vehicles and no broken glass. Stay tuned as we continue the renovation!
